Check out the flier below for information about an upcoming art exhibition at Gun Hill Brewery including art from one of my super talented friends from elementary school AND the master behind my Super Mario star tattoo, Shak. The exhibit will feature work inspired by the Bronx and of course the always amazing Gun Hill Brewery will be serving up refreshments.

Check Out the Art Experience Happening at Gun Hill Brewery This Saturday!

This Saturday, July 25th, Silence is Accurate, an art platform that “narrates the journeys of New York’s emerging and mid-career artists,” is teaming up with Gun Hill Brewery for an Art Experience. The Experience will feature a collaboration between five local artists and 13 local brewers. The coolest part of this event is that the artists have created 30 original prints exclusively for this event AND that the brewers will be creating limited brews that will be judged by a panel (2 certified beer judges, 2 bar owners/managers, and 2 members of the Gun Hill team).

So if you like art or beer or BOTH come by this Saturday!

The Details:

Location: Gun Hill Brewery, 3227 Laconia Ave.

Time: 4- 8 pm

Make Everyday Small Business Saturday at these Bronx Businesses

Since I participated in #BlackoutFriday, I thought about how not spending any money at these mega corporations was great and all, but was really just a short-term solution.

Today being Small Business Saturday, I thought about how much more impact it’d have to simply shop local and support small businesses. To maximize this impact, we need to make a conscious decision to do this. While the opening of the Bay Plaza Mall is great and all, we must remember that small businesses are what give character to our neighborhoods (in addition of course to jobs and being an integral part of our economy) and make them communities.

So, check out this list I compiled of some Bronx small businesses you can support year round:

Bella Bath and Body Boutique –  Organic hair and body products, delicious smelling candles, and oils for your home. Check out the post I wrote on them a while back !

Brew Coffeehouse – Their chai lattes and s’more cookies are to die for! Plus, they carry soy milk which is awesome for the lactose intolerant folks out there like myself.

Whoopies Miniature Desserts – I sampled some of their desserts during Bronx Fashion Week. Delicious and cute!

Conti’s Pastry Shoppe – Serving up handmade pastries and desserts since 1921!

Bronx Baking Co. – You guys, they have bacon pretzels! Among other varieties, of course.

Bronx Beer Hall – Beer. Karaoke.Trivia nights. Awesome food. Awesome crowd. It’s in a food market for christ’s sake! It doesn’t get much better than this.

Gun Hill Brewery – The Bronx’s first brewery in decades. They also host yoga classes

Wonder Lee – Creative and stylish bow ties made from  materials like Legos and comics.

What businesses would you add to this list? Comment below with the links and I’ll add them!

Brews N Bloggers at Gun Hill Brewery

Collaboration is a beautiful thing, you guys. The Bronx Bloggers – a collective of bloggers who write about the wonderfulness that is the Bronx , of which I am very grateful to be a part of-  came together for our very first event – Brews N Bloggers at Gun Hill Brewery. Hosted this past Tuesday, March 18, we were able to walk around the Brewery and sample some beer before its  big opening Saturday. The staff was so helpful at helping a non-beer drinker such as myself select a beer. Considering that most beer tastes like what I’d imagine piss to taste like – it says a lot that I was able to down a pint of their Gun Hill Gold without a problem. Our food sponsors, Tosca and Pretzel Crisps provided amazing food for us to nosh on with our beer and made for a great evening of networking. I personally loved Tosca’s fried zucchini and Pretzel’ Crisps buffalo flavor. The Bronx Chronicle also donated money toward some illustrious raffle prizes from Gun Hill Brewery. I won a Gun Hill Brewery hoodie – perfect for this crazy up and down weather we’ve been having. Check out some photos of the event below and be sure to stop by Gun Hill Brewery yourself for a tour and some brew.
