Make Everyday Small Business Saturday at these Bronx Businesses

Since I participated in #BlackoutFriday, I thought about how not spending any money at these mega corporations was great and all, but was really just a short-term solution.

Today being Small Business Saturday, I thought about how much more impact it’d have to simply shop local and support small businesses. To maximize this impact, we need to make a conscious decision to do this. While the opening of the Bay Plaza Mall is great and all, we must remember that small businesses are what give character to our neighborhoods (in addition of course to jobs and being an integral part of our economy) and make them communities.

So, check out this list I compiled of some Bronx small businesses you can support year round:

Bella Bath and Body Boutique –  Organic hair and body products, delicious smelling candles, and oils for your home. Check out the post I wrote on them a while back !

Brew Coffeehouse – Their chai lattes and s’more cookies are to die for! Plus, they carry soy milk which is awesome for the lactose intolerant folks out there like myself.

Whoopies Miniature Desserts – I sampled some of their desserts during Bronx Fashion Week. Delicious and cute!

Conti’s Pastry Shoppe – Serving up handmade pastries and desserts since 1921!

Bronx Baking Co. – You guys, they have bacon pretzels! Among other varieties, of course.

Bronx Beer Hall – Beer. Karaoke.Trivia nights. Awesome food. Awesome crowd. It’s in a food market for christ’s sake! It doesn’t get much better than this.

Gun Hill Brewery – The Bronx’s first brewery in decades. They also host yoga classes

Wonder Lee – Creative and stylish bow ties made from  materials like Legos and comics.

What businesses would you add to this list? Comment below with the links and I’ll add them!

New Products at Bella Bath & Body Boutique

A little bird told me (or, you know, just a friendly email from the co-owner) that our favorite and only! organic Bronx body product boutique has gotten in some fancy new products!

From Bella Bath and Body Boutique:

Hugo Naturals
Their passion is to enhance peoples’ lives by creating amazing products made from the best raw materials that the Earth can sustainably give.  We currently carry their Bar soaps, Shower Gels and All-Over Body lotions.  Some of the fun scents, include Mexican Lime & Bergamot, Oatmeal & Shea, French Lavender and much more.
Canterbury Soaps
All of these soaps are made naturally in the state of Iowa using a base of palm, coconut, olive oil and pure essential oils. Colorants are either an herb or a natural clay colorant. These soaps are all-vegetable based and none are ever tested on animals.  We carry their entire collection of over 20 bar soaps.  Some of the scents include, French Lavender, Lavender & Tea Tree Oil, Earl Grey and Doublemint.
So, if you haven’t already gone to Bella, you’re missing out. And if you missed my post on my first visit to the boutique, you can check it out here. You’re welcome.

Going Natural: Bella Bath & Body Boutique

Did you know that there is not one Bath and Body Works or The Body Shop in the Bronx? (To be fair, according to The Body Shop’s website, they claim they have a branch in the Sephora in the Bay Plaza JC Penney). Regardless, neither of them carry solely natural and organic products. Stop schlepping downtown or to Westchester for your bath and body needs because Bella Bath and Body Boutique in Pelham Bay has what you need.

The bright and cozy shop carries a variety of soaps, candles, sugar scrubs, and body washes. They even have the curly hair line Beautiful Curls by Alaffia. Other brands lining the shelves include Pangea, Cake, and Simplicity.

The boutique’s owner was helpful and extremely knowledgeable about the products. Bella Bath & Body is a wonderful and much needed addition to the borough. It’s the perfect go-to spot to gather up some great, affordable gifts for the holidays (there are even prewrapped sets for last minute presents). They also sell gift cards in case you’re not sure what to get someone.

Go  out and support your local Bronx businesses this holiday season!
