Here in the Bronx, the Macy’s at the Mall at Bay Plaza will be hosting an event featuring discussions with  Jasmine Villegas, Julie Sarinana of Sincerely Jules, and Kika Rocha. The event will be held THIS Friday, September 19, 2014 at 6:30 pm.

Mall at Bay Plaza Opening

Yesterday was the grand opening of the Mall at Bay Plaza. It was a surreal experience. I promise I’m not exaggerating. In high school, I spent a considerable amount of time going to Queens Center Mall, which is at minimum an hour trip on the train from the Bronx. It’s not that I was particularly into tv-teenage mall culture, but sometimes you just want to wander around with your friends and peer into a bunch of different stores without traveling all over the place.

That said, that’s what the Mall at Bay Plaza offers to Bronxites. Now, we don’t have to trek out to other boroughs or god forbid outside the city limits (the horror!) to go to a nice mall. And it is nice. The entire time I was there I couldn’t believe that this was in the Bronx-not that we don’t have nice, well-maintained things, but because we really haven’t had anything like it here before. Suburbia usually freaks me out and makes me feel anxious (so many trees, no bodegas!) but it was nice to have this little slice of suburbia here. Though there were a number of stores that weren’t open yet, many of them are currently hiring and will be open by the fall. Most importantly, we can support our borough’s economy by spending our cash here instead of elsewhere.

I spent most of my time at H&M as I was invited by Natalie of Natalie Off Duty and her sister Dylana who were hosting the grand opening celebration. Kudos to H&M for their organized inventory and super friendly and helpful staff. It did get really crowded as time went on, but that’s to be expected at the grand opening of a store like this, I think. The cherry on top was that I was one of the first five customers to tweet at Natalie and Dylana about the opening, so I got my entire outfit- head to toe- for free! I’m heading to Vegas next weekend and was tempted to buy some cute vacation clothes, but figured it was better to get some work appropriate attire, since my vacation will sadly be coming to an end. I finally decided on a cute long-sleeve heart printed button down, high waisted black stretchy cigarette pants, some black ankle boots with thick heels, and a gold necklace with turquoise triangles hanging from it.

There are events happening this whole weekend to celebrate the opening of the mall, so be sure to check it out to get a chance to meet some celebrities and get your hands on some sales! I’ll be posting Macy’s weekend line up in just a bit.
